I clap with glee to see my tree and all its lights.
Mom pulls out a book of songs. We sit in front of this pretty tree.
And she teaches me Christmas carols.

“Hit the dirt!” Mom laughs as we play.
I do not roll on the ground as she expects. I run to the trash can. And kick it.
“What are you doing” Mom asks.
Hit dirt, I say.
“At least she does what she is told,” Dad laughs.

I point and whine. Money, I say. I want a smiley-face ball out of a gum ball machine.
Need money, I beg.
Mom hands me a coin. I put it in the slot and turn the lever. I get an orange yo-yo.
No, I wail.
Mom hands me a new coin. I get a pink whistle. Nooooo.
“No more,” [...]

“You are such a good helper,” Aunt Kris says as we make pigs in the blanket.
Here, I say. And hand her a new pig.
“Thank you,” Aunt Kris says.
She rolls the pig in dough. And I place the covered piggies on the tray. Soon the tray is full.
Aunt Kris puts them in the oven for [...]

I wake up in the morn.
Potty, I tell Mom.
We walk into the bathroom where my baby potty is.
No, I say. Big potty.
“Big potty? Like a big girl?” Mom asks.
Yes, I say.
So Mom picks me up and seats me on the big potty. My toes are four inches from the floor.
Hold me, I tell Mom.
“I’ve got [...]

Dad takes me to school. But I do not want him to leave. So he stays and has breakfast with me and my friends.
We have his favorite breakfast snack. Rolls with lots of sin o’ men on them.
“I can never say ‘no’ to these,” he says as he takes a big bite.

I string beads of every color on a fuzzy wire. My teacher helps me loop the wire and twist its ends to make a circle.
I hand my work to Mom when she picks me up from school.
“For me?” Mom asks. “How beautiful!”
And she slips it on her wrist. And wears it. Every where she goes.
